apparently according to some guys on css, steam went through some maintenance and wouldnt let you load friend lists or something like that. Dont know how that effects the game so much but it started working like an hour or two after i posted the original post.

Wow GAY!!! I load up l4d this morning to just mess around, and it was like it was a different game!!!! Totally different. Isn't a patch supposed to fix a game, not make into a completely different one?
