Now that the older PCs that used to have only 1 GB of RAM have 2GB instead, The computers' performance is very noticeably better. However, one thing that could improve it even more (and may be helpful when running the heavier programs such as Photoshop, or any other large program) to have the Windows "Color Scheme" set to Windows Vista Basic, rather than Windows Aero. It is still the first thing I do when I sit at a computer and the change may help customers who do not think to do this themselves.


And Logistics responds:
Windows Aero should be using the GPU to accelerate the video performance and by switching to Vista Basic you are actually shutting this off and forcing the CPU to render the graphics on the system while the GPU sits mostly idle. How exactly you are benchmarking the performance increase by shutting off Aero? I’ll play with the settings some in the morning, but if everything is functioning as it should then what you are suggesting should actually harm performance instead of help it…
